Professor Hill is interested in the design of mechanical components that resist failure over time, with applications in sectors such as aerospace, power generation, manufacturing, rail and automotive. Hill’s research students combine techniques of experiment and simulation to assess essential phenomena, including fatigue behavior of materials and residual stress fields arising in manufacture. Hill’s research connects manufacturing to in-field performance and broadly supports engineering decisions for new design and fleet sustainment.
